The goal of SKEY (Finnish communities for sustainable living) is to advance sustainable and communal living in Finland.
- We reinforce the interaction between Finnish eco-villages and other communities that aim to live sustainably.
- We support the formation and development of new ecological communities.
- We connect the people looking for communities and communities looking for people.
- We follow research that supports sustainable living and share information about the best practices.
- We organize meetings, education, trips, projects, parties and other events – for anyone who is interested in sustainable and communal living.
- The association is part of the international Global Ecovillage Network (GEN) and serves as GEN Europe’s national network in Finland.
In the context of the association’s activities, ”sustainable living”, means both the practical life choices that reduce the carbon footprint of individuals and communities, and the society’s sustainable transition towards a culture that is renewable, fair and diverse. Sustainability is seen holistically, covering both the social, ecological and economical sustainability as well as sustainability in world view.
The association makes decisions using the sociocratic model and has organized into circles that work independently, each having their own responsibilities and wide autonomy. Open circle- and association meetings of SKEY are great places to get familiar with sosiocratic decision-making and leadership.
SKEY was founded in the year 2003 to support establishment and development of communities that foster ecologic, communal and sustainable living in Finland. The idea behind the founding of the association was born from the need for a national network which would gather together people from ecological communities, advance sharing of information and make the interaction possible both locally and globally. Along the years, SKEY has grown into a diverse network which works as a bridge-builder between different communities, organizations and individuals.
Circles of SKEY
SKEY consists of different circles of which the central circle works at the core of the network. The central circle is tightly linked to other circles, supporting communication and interaction between each other.
